FOOD SAFETY – The FACTS
Fact – According to the latest OzFoodNet annual report, 5.4 million cases of foodborne illness occur annually in Australia, many of which are preventable. The cost of these illnesses is estimated at a staggering AUD $1.2 billion.
If FOOD STANDARDS AUSTRALIA NEW ZEALAND are concerned with the suitability of plastic for food contact, WHY do schools, hospitals, commercial kitchens continue to use them?
After consultation with Queensland Health and Food Standards Australia New Zealand we received the following standards for commercially used cutting boards….
“The use of hard, close grained wood can be suitable for equipment such as chopping boards, butchers’ blocks, rolling pins etc providing they are maintained in a good condition……”
“Plastics are generally suitable for a wide range of purposes, but plastics vary with their resistance to heat, suitability for food contact etc.”

With the above in mind it should be time to think about changing the plastic cutting boards in your Kitchen?
